Copenhagen-native Trinelise Vaering is known for her insatiable curiosity and relentless pursuit of new musical horizons. On her upcoming solo album, A Songwriter’s Odyssey she delves deep into her profound love for Americana and (alt) country music.

Her latest release A Songwriter’s Odyssey came out January 31, 2025, marks her eight album as a solo artist.

From Jazz Diva to Distinguished Singer-Songwriter

Over a long and varied career, Vaering has worked in diverse musical constellations, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to musical exploration.

In her twenties and early thirties, she released three highly praised solo albums as a jazz artist. After a decade of touring and releasing several albums, she boldly recalibrated her career by shifting her focus to more songwriting centric genres now writing primarily in her mother tongue Danish.

Klaus Lynggaard, rock critic from Dagbladet Information, described her as “one of our most fascinating and daring female artists,” while Kim Skotte of Politiken hailed her as “one of the most persistently personal songwriters writing in Danish.”

Her most recent album in Danish is Du går ind ad en dør from 2018.

Alongside her work as a solo artist, she has worked under different band names.

Presently Væring is co-leader and co-writer for the ten-piece folk-fusion band Tone of Voice Orchestra. TOVO released their debut album in March 2022 to airplay in 24 countries to rave review from USA in the West to Japan in the East, from Norway in the North to Australia in the South. The album won one DMA (Danish Grammy) along with 3 more nominations.

As music journalist Christian Munch-Hansen from Denmark's Politiken, when praising Vaering's artistic bravery and versatility, put it in 2014, “Vaering has repeatedly demonstrated her courage and ability to place herself in high-quality, serious musical settings, with a career that for many years has tested the along the genre boundaries.”

An Impressive Career

As a bandleader Vaering has all in all released 13 critically acclaimed albums to this day. Here of 7 as a solo artist. She has been nominated for numerous Danish Music Awards in both roots and jazz categories (even in the same year) and in different capacities (as songwriter, composer, and vocalist). In 2022 she won with Tone of Voice Orchestra for “Best vocal jazz album”.
